PERSONNEL Louisiana, when it was purchased by the United States in 1803, added more to the fledgling country than sheer land mass. It Not only doubled the size of the country, but even more importantly, added cultural Diversity to the nation. Nothing could have been more important than the musical traditions it brought, settled by Spanish, French, English, German, Irish, Scots and Africans, as well as the Native Americans already present, the diversity that this rich tapestry brought was unparalleled in the history of this great nation. We have attempted to give a very brief overview of the differing musical influences, giving you only a taste of the different types of music being played in Louisiana as it was added to the United States. |
