NOTES:
Louisiana is a crucial area in the development of black music. The dominance of New Orleans in musical histories has meant that musch of what was going on outside the city has been ignored. New Orleans went from Buddy Bolden to the Meters. But it is a city that is very much of itself. This compilation's aim is to take a look at what was going on elsewhere in the State, be it with Dee Marais or Bobby Patterson recording up in Shreveport, or the funk and soul recordings that were going on alongside - often for the same labels that were recording cajun and zydeco music in the Southwest.
