Notes
Beausoleil is the project of fiddle, banjo and guitar player Michael Doucet. Inspired by 78s of the old Cajun masters and French folk music, Beausoleil is deeply steeped in tradition while incorporating modern influences of jazz, rock, and blues. On this 1989 release, master fiddler, Canray Fontenot, joins Beausoliel on four tracks. Fontenot learned to play on a homemade cigar box fiddle at the age of nine, carrying on his family’s string tradition while adding his own modern touches. He has long been hailed as “the greatest black Creole Fiddler of our time.” This collaboration between Beausoleil and Fontenot masterfully revives the old sounds of the south with an edge of the contemporary. Liner notes include English translations of the lyrics and a forward by Michael Doucet.
